The Truk Lagoon Wreck Baseline Project started in November 2019 by scanning and documenting a number of the ‘Ghost Fleet’ of Truk Lagoon. Scanning was able to continue once the borders had re-opened post COVID. In June 2023 we returned to one of the most iconic wrecks, the Rio De Janeiro Maru. This was the second time we had gone to scan her nearly 4 years after the initial scan.

The purpose of the project is to create a baseline of the wrecks to monitor degradation.

It was obvious while scanning in 2023 that degradation and collapse had occurred since 2019. We created a fly-by side-by-side comparison video to show the changes.
